The Ghost of Morning Star

It was an odd day in May of 2007 as we sailed north along the Atlantic coast; the visibility was almost nonexistent and you would swear we were off the coast of Maine instead of Georgia.  It wasn't long however, before our noses made it clear; this wasn't fog we were experiencing, it was smoke!

Smoke from several large wildfires over northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia had found its way out into the Atlantic and was producing the equivalent of a fog bank.  As we sailed along, the Morning Star shrimper appeared out of the “Fog”, turned and slowly made it's way past us.

In my mind's eye, I still remember the moment I saw it coming out of the dense smoke – a Ghost Ship appearing out of nowhere!

I hope you enjoy your painting as much as I enjoyed creating it!
